Real terrain data, edited by hand, made to wear, frame and collect. We turn places — summits, ocean floors, craters, mission sites — into measured objects: archival prints and tees built from documented elevation data. Not posters. Not decoration. Archive objects.

The Trophy is the defining fact or story of the place: a summit height, eruption time, crater scale, mission date, ocean depth or other memorable signal. For Mount St. Helens it is 1,314 ft of elevation lost on May 18, 1980. For Olympus Mons it is 21,229 m above the Martian datum. Every Archive Entry has one.

An Archive Entry is a specific terrain design tied to a place, dataset, Trophy and Archive ID. Each Entry can exist as a Tee, an Archival Print, a Complete Edition, or a Premiere Edition — but all formats trace back to the same documented terrain record.

An Archive ID is the record behind each terrain entry: source data, dataset version, contour interval, processing notes, manual edits and related products. The format is HE-[WORLD]-[YY]-[ENTRY#]-[SLUG] — for example, HE-EA-26-001-HDM for Half Dome. It appears on the product page, the provenance card and your packaging.

Contour interval is the vertical distance between contour lines. A 40 m interval means each line represents 40 metres of elevation change. Each Archive ID records the source interval from the dataset and the rendered interval used for the final tee or print. The interval is chosen per terrain to maximise legibility — a flat bathymetric chart uses a different interval than a vertical alpine face.

Tee is the wearable version. Archival Print is the framed / wall version. Complete Edition includes both from the same Archive Entry — one terrain in two forms. All three share the same contour data, the same Trophy, the same Archive ID.

No. Horizon Editions prints are built as archival terrain prints, not disposable posters. They are printed on acid-free archival matte stock, carry an Archive ID and a documented data source. The distinction matters: a poster is decoration; an archival print is a record.

Because it is designed as the full Archive Entry: one terrain in two forms. Tee + Print bought separately is $93. Complete Edition is $82 — you save $11. It is designed to be owned together.

We print on Bella+Canvas 3001 — 100% Airlume combed and ring-spun cotton, 4.2 oz, pre-shrunk, side-seamed, shoulder-to-shoulder taped. Printed with Oeko-Tex certified inks. Classic fit, true to size. If you are between sizes, size up.

Yes. All prints are 18×24 in (45×60 cm), which fits standard frames. One standard size across the entire archive — a single frame fits every entry. For long-term display, use UV-filtering glass or acrylic. The prints have no white borders — the image runs close to the edge.

No generative imagery, no style transfer and no AI terrain invention. The lines come from measured terrain data and are edited by hand. Every line is traceable to a source dataset with a documented coordinate, interval and processing step. The stronger claim is traceability — not AI-refusal alone.

Public, open and government-hosted datasets. Earth terrain uses USGS 3DEP (10 m DEM). Ocean bathymetry uses GEBCO / NOAA. Planetary terrain uses NASA PDS. Every Archive ID names the specific source, version and resolution. See the Data page for the full pipeline.

Raw terrain data is not automatically a finished object. Human editing decides crop, hierarchy, line weight, simplification and composition. The goal is maximum fidelity to the terrain at a resolution that remains legible at print or wear scale. No template can make those decisions. The pipeline is QGIS → SVG → Illustrator, with manual editing at every stage.

No. Horizon objects are design and archive objects, not navigational tools. Do not use them for route-finding, safety planning or any navigational purpose. For navigation use official topographic maps from USGS, OS, IGN or equivalent national mapping agencies.

Open archive prints use archival matte stock chosen for clear contour detail and clean framing. Matte stock keeps dense contour fields legible and reduces glare when framed — a glossy surface would fight the linework.

Terrain lines read better on matte stock. Matte reduces glare, keeps dense contour fields legible at reading distance and feels more appropriate for framed archival work than a reflective poster finish. Gloss is designed to make photographs pop — not to carry fine linework at tight intervals across a full 18×24 in sheet.

Acid-free paper will not yellow or degrade from internal chemical reactions. Pigment-based inks (not dye-based) give UV resistance and colour stability. Together, properly framed and away from direct sunlight, an archival print retains its quality for 100+ years. This is the standard used by museum print collections — not a marketing claim.

Yes. Prints are easiest because no size is needed — pick the terrain, specify the address, done. Complete Editions are best when you know the recipient's tee size. Premiere Editions and Master Sets work well as collector gifts when the window is still open.

Yes, where available. Use the gift note field at cart. The note is printed on the provenance card and included with the order.

No — prices are not included in gift orders. The package contains only the terrain object and the provenance card. Receipts and order confirmations go to the buyer's email only.

United States. Shipping is free on every order. We do not currently ship to the EU, UK, or rest of world — you can join the waitlist from any collection page and we'll email you when we launch there.

Open archive prints and tees are made to order. Production is 3–5 business days, then shipping is 2–4 business days in the US — 5–9 business days total. Complete Editions ship as two separate packages — the tee folded in a mailer, the print rolled in a protective tube — and may arrive on different days. Tracking is provided for both.

Premiere Editions and Master Sets ship from a single production run and carry specific window dates on the product page.

All prints and tees are produced to order. We do not accept returns on correctly fulfilled orders.

Damaged or defective: if the item arrives damaged or with a production error, email hello@horizoneditionsstudio.com within 30 days of delivery with your order number and a photo. We will arrange a replacement at no cost.

Wrong size: each piece is made to order, so we cannot offer free size exchanges. Please check the sizing guide carefully before ordering. If the fit is really off, email us — we can sometimes help case by case.
